FriYAY Cocktails: Blood Orange & Thyme Daiquiri

Ok admittedly I’m getting this post up prettyyyyy late for a Friday, but I just had to share!

Way more than I thought I would. I was iffy about mixing thyme and citrus, but decided to take the risk. Well I’m happy as hell I did! Let me give a super quick background of a Daiquiri. It’s basically a cocktail consisting of rum, citrus juice, and sugar. Simple.

The name actually comes from a beach and iron mine in Cuba. But the combination of ingredients come from the Grog British sailors drank in the 18th century. Grog contained rum, water, lemon juice, and sugar. Make a few minor changes and voilà you have a Daiquiri.

Alright no more wasting time. Get your shaker and muddler and get to it!

Makes 2 servings
leaves of 4-6 thyme sprigs
8 oz blood orange juice
4 oz white rum
2 oz simple syrup
slices of blood orange to garnish
extra sprigs of thyme to garnish

  1. Pick off the leaves of 4-5 sprigs of thyme and muddle them at the bottom of your shaker
  2. Combine all ingredients in the shaker along with ice and give it a good shake
  3. Serve in a chilled cocktail glass with a few more sprigs of thyme and blood orange slices to garnish
